Un finish à peine croyable. Pour un centième de seconde, le Kenyan Conseslus Kipruto a conservé son titre de champion du monde du 3.000m steeple grâce à un retour exceptionnel sur l'Ethiopien Lamecha Girma qui menait pourtant la course.
Au final, Conseslus Kipruto s'impose en 8'01"35, contre un chrono de 8'01"36 pour son adversaire.
Roi de la distance, le Kenyan, champion olympique en titre, a su mettre le coup de rein nécessaire pour aller chercher son deuxième titre de champion du monde après celui décroché à Londres en 2017. A noter la belle performance du Français Djilali Bedrani, 5e.
