Samedi 19 mars, des centaines de monuments ou de sites célèbres dans 178 pays ont été plongés dans le noir pendant soixante minutes pour l'opération "Earth Hour", un événement symbolique annuel en faveur du climat.
Initiée en 2007 par le Fonds mondial pour la nature (WWF), l’opération "Earth Hour" a pour objectif de sensibiliser les populations et les gouvernements aux dangers du réchauffement climatique. Les trois quarts des émissions de gaz à effet de serre sont en effet causées par les énergies fossiles (charbon, gaz, pétrole), utilisées notamment dans la production d’électricité.
Cette édition 2016 a été marquée par l'accord trouvé en décembre dernier lors de la COP21. La communauté internationale s'était engagée à ce que le réchauffement climatique n'excède pas les 2 degrés supplémentaires par rapport à l'ère préindustrielle.

De Paris à Tokyo en passant par New York ou encore Sydney, ce sont plus de 7 000 villes qui ont éteint leurs lumières pour la planète pendant une heure.
